Measurements of the carpet with borders are (16 + 2x2) or 20 m and (12 + 2x2) or 16 m.
Area of the carpet with borders = 20 x 16 = 320 m2
Area of the carpet without borders = 16 x 12 = 192 m2
So, area of the borders = 320 - 192 = 128 m2
